The early adolescents in Kenya are affected by many social issues that also affect the youths such as poverty, dysfunctional families, HIV/Aids, drugs, peer pressure, physical, emotional and sexual abuse and crime. Majority of them are uninformed about their role in society and their fundamental and constitutional rights and freedoms. The link between unemployment and lack of opportunities and delinquency is strong, and a national commitment to this issue is critical.
Impacting Youth Trust recognizes that with the increased risk for problems for early adolescence, there’s also an opportunity for change though intervention. The Stori Yangu- Literary project is an early intervention strategy that provides the participants an expressive and interactive platform that allows them to express their thoughts and ideas on social, political and economic issues that affect their lives.
The Stori yangu - Literary project is a preparatory early intervention project for the new comer youth that is delivered directly to 12- 15 year olds in Class 7 & 8 in a school structured setting. It provides a platform for the primary school children to express themselves and help them in the path of self-discovery. The project is meant to reconcile the divergent perspectives of adolescents who are exhibiting early youth behaviors at a younger age by giving them a chance to self- develop and self- express themselves.
